How to Cancel Dropbox Subscription?

To cancel your Dropbox subscription, follow these general steps. Keep in mind that the exact wording or layout might slightly vary depending on when you are performing the cancellation.

On the Dropbox Website (dropbox.com):

This is the most common way to cancel your subscription.

  1. Log in to dropbox.com: Open your web browser and go to the Dropbox website. Sign in with your email address and password.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials): In the bottom-left corner of the page, you will see your profile picture or your initials. Click on it.
  3. Click “Manage account”: From the menu that appears, select “Manage account”.
  4. Click “Cancel plan”: On the “Plan” tab of your account settings, scroll to the bottom of the page. You should see a “Cancel plan” button. Click on it.
    • Note: If you don’t see the “Cancel plan” button, it’s possible you purchased your Dropbox subscription through your mobile device’s app store (Apple App Store or Google Play Store). In this case, you will need to cancel directly through the app store on your device (see instructions below).
  5. Select a reason for canceling: Dropbox will likely ask you to provide a reason for canceling your subscription. Select the reason that best applies to you.
  6. Click “Continue canceling” or “Confirm change”: Follow the on-screen prompts to proceed with the cancellation. You may need to click a button to confirm your decision.

On Your Mobile Device (If Purchased Through App Store):

If you purchased your Dropbox subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you need to cancel it through their respective subscription management systems.

For iPhone or iPad (Apple App Store):

  1. Open the Settings app: On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap your name: At the top of the Settings menu, tap your name (Apple ID, iCloud, Media & Purchases).
  3. Tap “Subscriptions”: On the Apple ID page, tap “Subscriptions”.
    • You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.
  4. Find Dropbox: In your list of subscriptions, locate Dropbox.
  5. Tap “Cancel Subscription”: Tap on Dropbox and then tap “Cancel Subscription”.
  6. Confirm cancellation: You may need to confirm your decision to cancel.

For Android (Google Play Store):

  1. Open the Google Play Store app: On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile icon: In the top-right corner, tap your profile icon.
  3. Tap “Payments & subscriptions”: From the menu, select “Payments & subscriptions”.
  4. Tap “Subscriptions”: On the “Payments & subscriptions” menu, tap “Subscriptions”.
  5. Find Dropbox: In your list of subscriptions, locate Dropbox.
  6. Tap “Cancel subscription”: Tap on Dropbox and then tap “Cancel subscription”.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions: You may be asked to confirm your cancellation and provide a reason.

Important Things to Note:

  • Cancellation Timing: When you cancel your paid Dropbox plan, the change to the free Dropbox Basic account will typically take effect at the end of your current billing cycle (monthly or yearly). You will usually still have access to the features of your paid plan until the end of that period. You will not be charged again after the billing cycle ends.
  • Confirmation Email: After successfully canceling your subscription, you should receive a confirmation email from Dropbox (if canceled through their website) or from the app store (if canceled through a mobile app store). Keep this email for your records.
  • Downgrade to Basic: Canceling your paid subscription downgrades your account to the free Dropbox Basic plan, which has a storage limit of 2 GB. If your account is using more than 2 GB of storage when the downgrade occurs, Dropbox will stop syncing your files to your devices. Your files will still be accessible on the Dropbox website.
  • No Automatic Cancellation: Letting your credit card expire or deleting the Dropbox app from your devices does not automatically cancel your subscription. You need to follow the official cancellation steps outlined above.
  • Refunds: In most cases, Dropbox does not offer refunds for canceled subscriptions. If you believe there has been a billing error, you should contact Dropbox support directly. Users in the EU, UK, and Turkey may have the right to a refund if they cancel within 14 days of purchase or renewal.
  • Check Your Billing: You can view your past and future billing dates on the Billing page of your account settings on the Dropbox website (dropbox.com/account/billing).

If you encounter any difficulties or don’t see the cancellation options as described, it’s best to consult the Dropbox Help Center directly for the most up-to-date instructions or to contact their support team.Sources and related content
